Mike (Dec 9 '18): It is possible I jinxed them last week. We lost all four of One Fish, scotty, sparky and szuram in a brutal night for predicting hockey outcomes. I am going to declare them the winners of this pool, since BenjaminBelcour and Sievers were late to the party, and we'll take a break then open up a new NHL survivor pool in the New Year. Mike (Dec 3 '18): Six different picks for the week, we were bound to get a couple strikes. Vegas loses to the Oilers and that knocks out Smallmarketmen and gives One Fish his second strike, while scotty is on a two-game skid losing this week with the Blue Jackets. The four alive who started from the beginning - One Fish, scotty, sparky and szuram - they now all have 2 strikes. Mike (Nov 26 '18): A bunch of different picks here but most got through. We lost goflames on the Blue Jackets and scotty took his first strike. As we roll into December I wonder if we will wrap this up by Christmas. Mike (Nov 19 '18): We lost four on their third strike. Nashville was a popular pick, and the Bruins came through. I like One Fish's confidence taking Calgary over Edmonton! I watched the third period and Flames dominated the Oilers. Mike (Nov 12 '18): Bah, I'm out on the Hurricanes! Overtime shootout loss. Same with Columbus to the Rangers. I know the shootout adds some randomness into the process here, but wanted to make this pool tough actually picking the team to win as opposed to picking a team to get to OT. Mike (Nov 5 '18): It wasn't a huge upset night Saturday but there were some tough choices. We lost people on the Capitals, Blue Jackets, Flyers and Devils. We are now less than half the entries we started with. 21 are alive after the first weekend in November. We'll see how many can make it to December. Mike (Oct 27 '18): Yep. Four weeks in, sounds about right :) Smallmarketmen (Oct 26 '18): Do or die for a lot of folks this weekend... Mike (Oct 22 '18): Doing some checks this morning and realized the hockey survivor default picks were not firing when someone misses a pick. Fixed now, the defaults didn't help anyone. Anaheim first (alphabetical) lost each of the last two Saturdays. So we are 42 alive now with plenty on their last strike heading into week four. Mike (Oct 15 '18): Two weeks in and that is a lot of red x's, as we try to figure out the good, bad and ugly teams of the NHL to start the 2018-19 season. Good thing this is triple knockout. No one is out ... yet! Mike (Oct 9 '18): And that is why we use double or triple knockout for NHL survivor! Yikes! That was a rough first Saturday. Leafs to Sens, Penguins to Habs were the main culprits. Props to Dexterdoodle3000 who picked Montreal. It is three strikes in this pool so better luck this Saturday. Mike (Sep 25 '18): I still have a few packs of Tim Horton's hockey cards from last year, and if they do that again this year, then I will allocate some of those to the winner. Yes, still have my Iced Capp addiction. If anyone wants to donate a prize for any of our pools then let me know.
Pick one team to WIN its game (including OT and shootout)
If they win, advance to the next week
If they lose, take a strike
Once you have three strikes , you are out of the pool
CANNOT pick the same team more than once
Last entry to survive is the winner!
Starting the first week of your pool, you have to pick one team that will
win its game straight up (no point spreads) including overtime and shootout results.
If the team you picked loses, then you receive a strike. Once you collect three strikes, then you are eliminated
from the pool.
You cannot pick the same team twice during the length of this pool.
Picks are submitted once a week. Only games played on Saturdays are included in the pool.
The last person in the pool still alive after all others have been eliminated, the survivor,
is the winner.
The pool will continue as long as there are entries still alive or until the pool's final week,
whichever comes first.

In weeks with games scheduled earlier than the above deadlines, these games can be selected
but picks must be submitted before puck drop of that game. This deadline applies to all remaining
games for the week.
These deadlines will be strictly enforced! There will be no exceptions for picks not being submitted on
If no pick is submitted prior to the deadline, then a default pick will be
assigned a maximum of once per entry for the length of the pool. If an entry already used a default pick in a previous week, then
no pick is assigned and the entry takes a wrong pick for that week.
The default pick will be the team listed first alphabetically based on city then team name,
not already used previously, amongst all teams playing on or after the deadline.
Alternate Pick Submission
If you are having difficulty submitting your pick online, then send the
pick by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure to clearly state
the name of the pool, your username, entry number, week of the pool and pick. The email must be received time
stamped prior to the deadline and from the email account associated with your username.
We take no responsibility for email being delayed past the deadline or not
being delivered. Everyone should use the online system to make their picks and only send an email in the
case of an emergency.
If more than one entry is still alive at the end of the pool, then
those alive entries are all considered equal winning entries.
Mass Knockout Rule
If more than five entries are all eliminated in the same week and these
eliminations would result in the conclusion of the pool, because there are no more alive entries, then these
entries will be considered still alive and play on if there are available weeks remaining in the pool.
If five or fewer entries are all eliminated in the same week and these eliminations result in the conclusion
of the pool, then those entries are all considered equal winning entries.
